Cookie Butter Is Sneaking Into Everything This Fall
I don't know who first looked at a cookie and thought, “This needs to be spreadable.” But I respect the vision.
Cookie butter has been around for years, but it feels especially at home once fall arrives. It’s sweet, warmly spiced, and tastes like something you should be eating while wrapped in a blanket.
And while spreading it directly onto a cookie might seem like cookie-on-cookie chaos, I’m not ruling it out.
Wait, What Is Cookie Butter?
If you've somehow avoided this particular temptation, cookie butter is a creamy spread made from crushed spiced cookies.
The flavor leans heavily into caramelized sugar and warm spices. The consistency is something in peanut butter territory, which means it's incredibly easy to spread, drizzle, swirl, or eat directly from the spoon while standing in front of the pantry.
Not that I have experience with that last one.
Now let’s explore some ways to add it to your meal plan.
Swirl It Into Your Morning Oatmeal
Oatmeal is one of my favorite blank canvases for fall flavors, and a spoonful of cookie butter changes the entire situation.
Swirl a little into hot oatmeal and let it melt. Add sliced bananas or apples if you want to pretend we're being responsible here.
It also works beautifully stirred into overnight oats.
Make Your Toast More Interesting
Toast doesn't always need avocado.
Spread cookie butter over warm sourdough, an English muffin, or a toasted bagel. For a little contrast, add thinly sliced apples on top.
You've now made breakfast feel much closer to dessert. I support this.
Give Warm Apples the Cookie Butter Treatment
This might be the easiest fall dessert you make all season. Slice an apple and warm it in a skillet or microwave until it softens. Add a spoonful of cookie butter while the apple is still hot so it gets wonderfully melty.
If vanilla ice cream happens to find its way on top, who am I to interfere?
Upgrade Your Hot Drinks
Cookie butter doesn't have to stay on the plate. Try stirring a small spoonful into hot coffee or a latte. It adds sweetness along with that caramelized, spiced-cookie flavor that fits right into fall.
You can also warm a little milk with cookie butter for an easy caffeine-free drink when you want something cozy before bed.
Keep a Jar Around This Fall
Do you need cookie butter in your pantry? Technically, no.
But fall isn't really the season for technicalities.
Use it to make breakfast more interesting, turn apples into dessert, or upgrade your afternoon drink when you need a little treat. Just don't blame me when you start eating it straight from the jar.
At that point, you're on your own.
